Carlos Hernández Allende
founding architect

charqo. is an architectural studio based high on the southern slopes of Tenerife, in the rural town of Jama, in the municipality of Vilaflor de Chasna. Founded by architect Carlos Hernández Allende, the studio works from and toward the territory.

We approach each project with a deep commitment to materiality, available resources, and the goals of every client.

We are aware that we create spaces that will outlive us. That is why we seek a kind of excellence tailored to people — understanding architecture not as a mere product, but as a third skin that wraps around our existence: the intermediate layer between ourselves and the world.

The space we inhabit defines us. It seeps into our being and shapes who we are and who we will become.

That is why each project is a pursuit of balance: between function and beauty, fullness and void, container and content, organic and artificial, curve and straight line, idea and matter.

Technique and sensitivity engage in dialogue in every commission to reveal the most appropriate way to intervene in a place. Our main tools: observation, imagination, experience, and active listening.

We pay attention to every detail, exploring multiple possible solutions for each situation. We always aim to find the one that offers the greatest spatial quality and coherence with the style and way of living of those who entrust us with their space.

We let thought, like a secret liquid, filter through the cracks in the terrain, spill out, and take shape.

Architecture is not imposed — it is revealed.
